Had a great experience with their support and installation team, and I’ve had the service for a couple of weeks now and had not issues with speed or availability so far. I am lucky that I have clear view to one of their antennas, which does help.

Is fiber internet actually better than cable?

Yes, fiber internet is vastly superior to traditional cable internet in terms of speed, reliability, and performance. Fiber-optic technology transmits data using light signals through thin glass cables, which allows for symmetrical download and upload speeds (often reaching up to 1 or 2 Gigs). Unlike traditional copper cable networks, which are susceptible to signal degradation and neighborhood network congestion during peak evening hours, fiber provides a highly consistent connection with significantly lower latency for smooth video calls and gaming.

How much internet speed do I need?

The internet speed you need depends entirely on your household size and daily online activities. For 1-2 people doing light web browsing, checking email, and streaming standard-definition video, an entry-level speed of 20 Mbps is sufficient. Average households with multiple people streaming in HD should aim for 100 to 500 Mbps. For large smart homes, hardcore gamers, or households running simultaneous 4K streams, high-capacity plans with speeds up to 1 or 2 Gigs provide the bandwidth needed to prevent network congestion.

What is the difference between download and upload speeds?

Download speed dictates how fast your device receives data from the internet, while upload speed dictates how fast your device sends data back out to the internet. You rely on download speeds for watching movies or loading web pages, and you rely on upload speeds for hosting video calls, online gaming, or backing up files to the cloud. Internet plans offer a wide range of options to match these needs, from affordable 20 Mbps connections for basic downloading to advanced fiber networks offering speeds up to 1 or 2 Gigs for heavy two-way data traffic.

Is fixed wireless internet good for gaming and streaming?

Yes, modern fixed wireless internet is highly capable of supporting both seamless streaming and competitive online gaming. Fixed wireless technology uses a direct, line-of-sight radio connection from a local tower to a receiver on your home, offering significantly lower latency and greater stability than satellite internet. With consistent speeds and low ping times, fixed wireless provides the responsive connection required for lag-free multiplayer gaming and smooth HD or 4K video streaming without constant buffering.

Does Utah Broadband have data caps or overage fees?

No, Utah Broadband residential internet plans feature truly unlimited data. We do not enforce monthly data caps, we do not slow down (throttle) your connection after you reach a certain data threshold, and we never charge overage fees regardless of how much you stream, game, or download.

Do I need a professional installation, or can I set it up myself?

Professional installation is included at no additional cost for residential customers who sign a one-year service agreement. Our trained technicians will professionally install and configure your Utah Broadband service, ensuring your fiber connection or fixed wireless equipment is properly set up for optimal performance from day one.

Why is my internet slow in certain rooms, and how can I fix it?

Internet speeds drop in certain rooms due to physical distance from the router or signal interference from thick walls, metal appliances, and other electronics. Upgrading your internet plan will not fix a weak Wi-Fi signal if the router itself cannot physically reach the room. To eliminate dead zones, you should move your router to a central, elevated location away from obstructions, or upgrade your home hardware to a mesh Wi-Fi system to extend the wireless signal’s reach.

What is the difference between fiber internet and fixed wireless?

Fiber internet transmits data using light signals through glass cables, offering extremely high, symmetrical speeds and maximum reliability. Fixed wireless internet (like our Wireless Wave service) delivers high-speed broadband via a secure radio connection from a local broadcast tower to an antenna on your home. Utah Broadband offers both technologies so we can provide reliable internet whether you live in a highly developed neighborhood or a harder-to-reach area.
